With only a week left of 2018, it’s the perfect time to start thinking about how you’re going to incorporate more travel into your life for 2019! There isn’t a step by step guide on how to motivate yourself to travel more, but I do think you have to be in the right mindset to create a positive experience. Because last minute nerves are always inevitable, here are some tricks to help you stop that way of thinking so you can just enjoy your time and have an incredible experience exploring the world!!!

HERE ARE OUR 5 WAYS TO MOTIVATE YOURSELF TO TRAVEL MORE

Prepare, prepare, prepare!

It’s not easy getting the plans together, saving the money and actually making the first move to click “buy” on that plane ticket -but just do it! You’re much more likely to feel motivated to take that trip when you have everything mapped out ahead of time. Then you don’t have to worry about where you’re going to stay that night, where your passport is, or if you’ll have enough money. By booking a few nights in advance so you always know where you’re sleeping, have a rough plan of your daily itinerary, and always keep your valuables safe – then you’re going to worry a lot less and feel so much more relaxed and in control of your trip.

Stop comparing

“Comparison Is the Thief of Joy” – Theodore Roosevelt

Comparison is natural, especially when looking on Instagram or Facebook and you see people having an amazing time in destinations around the world, but you shouldn’t let comparison take the enjoyment out of travel for you! You might not get that incredible one-of-a-kind shot of you next to the Eiffel tower for your Instagram, but if you had a really fun day and some incredible memories, isn’t that what you want to remember? You can always take a really unique Instagram at the next location you head to that might be less well known! Also, it’s really easy to forget that people never show the downside of travelling on their Instagram stories; we never see the delayed flights or bad hotel experiences, and that’s ok! Stop comparing and I guarantee you’ll enjoy yourself a lot more.

Don’t talk yourself out of it!

I don’t know about you, but when I’m alone I find it really easy to overthink a situation in my head. I can turn a once in a lifetime trip into something maybe I shouldn’t do in the span of three minutes! You have to learn to not give that voice any power because it can take over. If you let worry or fear of the unknown ruin your trip, I can promise you that you’ll regret it. Try some deep breathing or meditation to calm you down. You can do them on your own and even use apps like headspace to guide you if you feel that the worry is getting to be a bit much.

Talk to other travellers

Talking to other people who have been where you’re going, or even planning to go there at some point can be a huge help. Chat to anyone who has an interest in travel – they tend to be very passionate people and I can assure you that this will motivate you to get on that plane! Passion and excitement is simply contagious and nothing compares to personal recommendations of where to go and what to do on your travels! Additionally, hotels and hostels are a great way to meet people, and being around that type of energy is motivating in itself. I also recommend following people on Twitter or Instagram and asking questions about the places they’ve been, as it will serve as useful insight to the different places you visit. You can also find groups on Facebook that connect you to local information and also help you find people to meet up with!

Read travel blogs

I read so many travel blogs on a weekly basis that my travel bucket list is taller than me, but it really does give you so much motivation to explore as much of this world as possible! If you can take a weekend away or if you’re saving for one big round the world trip, travel blogs offer a wealth of knowledge and information that can help you plan your trip. It might mean you need to add extra days so you get a chance to do everything but it’ll be worth it! The Pangea Dreams community is full of awesome travel bloggers that are always willing to share their trips and tricks for travel 🙂

Next time you’re feeling unsure about a trip or feel that doubt starting to creep into your mind, remember that it’s very rare to come home from travelling and regret taking the time to explore and see more of the beautiful world we live in! Don’t stress if everything doesn’t always go to plan and remember that people often make lifelong friends abroad! Travel is incredible in so many ways and it’s important to focus on those reasons to go instead of the negatives. Take lots of pictures and have fun on your next trip!
